Raised Beds, Container and Hay Bale Gardening – Friday, April 22nd, 10am-1pm, Bibb County Commission Office. This activity combines classroom learning and demonstrations on each of these types of planting. FREE! Contact the Bibb County Extension office at 205-926-4310 to register.

Herbicide Demonstration for Pastures – Saturday, April 23rd, 11am – 1pm at 140 Morgan Avenue, Centreville.  If you have pastureland, you won’t want to miss this demonstration on the use of herbicides in pastures. See the results from timely application of herbicide in the fall/winter months to control spring growth of  buttercup and thistle. To register, call Bibb County Extension at 205-926-4310. This program is sponsored by the Bibb County Cattleman’s Association and Bibb County Extension. Free!

Saturday, April 23rd, 9am – 3:30pm at University of West Alabama Cahaba Biodiversity Center. This workshop is geared towards managing forested property by the small landowner. Topics include, managing the understory, identifying invasive species, managing nuisance wildlife management, Biodiversity in Bibb County, and developing a land management plan. Tour of the Biodiversity Center while learning about managing your property! Fee is $10 and includes lunch. To register, go to:

As the Bibb County Coordinator for Alabama Extension, Michelle Giddens coordinates the implementation of all Extension programs in Bibb County in many program areas. These program areas include 4-H and Youth Development, Animal Sciences, Food Safety and Quality, Forestry, Wildlife and Natural Resources, Human Nutrition, Diet and Health, Family and Child Development, Family Resource Management and Workforce Development, Commercial Horticulture, Home Grounds, Gardens and Home Pests, Farm and Agribusiness Management, and Community and Economic Development. Her experience includes with the eXtension Initiative at the University of Nebraska and with the eXtension Foundation; California State University, Fresno and Central Community College in Grand Island, NE. She currently serves on the board for Brierfield Fire and Rescue, a volunteer fire department serving Brierfield and Six Mile communities in Alabama
