On Friday [April 30], the Choctaws baseball team headed down to Midland City to take on the Dale County Warriors in the second round of the 4A playoffs. One would have to think the Warriors hated to see the purple and gold caravan pull into the parking lot. It seems all the Choctaws do is end their season. It happened to their baseball and football team in the 2017-2018 season and again to their football team this year. Bibb came looking to repeat the season sweep again, and that’s exactly what happened.
BCHS 11 DCHS 0. Game 1
In the first game the Choctaws sent Steven Wesley Cash to the mound. Cash would turn in a master piece as he scattered three hits while striking out 8 in five innings.
At the plate the Choctaws were led at the plate by Koby Kornegay and Bo Burkes with two hits a piece. Burkes and Chris Billingsley Jr drove in three runs a piece while Jake Fondren drove in two for the Choctaws. Every Choctaws hitter got a hit in the game except Cade Horton , who after hitting a long fly to center in the first, was intentionally walked three straight times.
BCHS 11 DCHS 0. Game 2
In game two, Bibb would send senior Cole McCarty to the hill. Some would think it would be hard to follow up Cash gem, but Cole would do just that with a two hitter of his own. McCarty struck out 7 to silence the Warrior batters and student section who had gotten on him before the game.
At the plate, well let’s just say the Warriors should have kept their strategy with Horton. They didn’t, and he made them pay the price for it. He would drive in six runs with the final three being a 3 run walk off, series ending bomb in the bottom of the fifth to make it 11-0. Horton and Kornegay ended the game with two hits a piece. Billingsley Jr. and Brylan Drake each drove in two runs for the Choctaws.
Coach Kevin May won his 100th game of his career at Bibb. The Choctaws have won at least 23 games in each season that he has been the head coach. The only season they didn’t reach 23 wins was the 2020 season that was cut short due to Covid.
The Choctaws are now 23-7 on the season and will face American Christian at home in the third round this Friday. Game one begins at 4:30 with Game two beginning shortly after game one ends.
Come out to Buddy Wade Field and help cheer these guys on.
