Local representatives from Alabama Students Against Prisons (ASAP) will be speaking to Bibb County officials this evening, in opposition to the proposed private prison in Brierfield:

Bibb County Commission
Monday, January 25th, 2021
157 SW Davidson Drive, Centreville, AL 35042
Meeting starts at 6:00 PM

Alabama Students Against Prisons is a coalition of students from over twenty schools across the state, fighting for fairer justice and working toward an Alabama less dependent on prisons. Including organizers from student-led campus groups, they are working to achieve their mission of empowering students and strengthening their collective voice. They oppose Gov. Ivey’s impending prison plan, as well as the policies which ensure our state remains ensnared in the vicious cycle of racialized mass incarceration.

ASAP has a network of over 200 student activists, over 700 followers on social media, a letter writing campaign with 150 participants and counting, and more students participating from colleges and universities throughout the nation.
