This past Friday night the Choctaws hosted 5A Andalusia in a non region game. The Choctaws were coming off a deflating loss to ACA the previous week and were looking to get back on track. Andalusia had a 2-3 record with losses to ranked teams in 7a and 5a.

The Bulldogs would get on the scoreboard for the first time with 4:47 to go in the first quarter when Josh Gurley scored on a 1 yard plunge. Gage Theus kicked the extra point and Andalusia led 7-0.

After the Bulldogs defense forced another punt by the Choctaws, they took over at their own 38 yard line and began to methodically move the ball down the field. Behind the running of Mike Hourel and J’Marion Burnette and the passing of Jake Wilson the Bulldogs were set up inside the Choctws 10 yard line. On second and goal, Gurley again found the end zone with a 5 yard sprint to the left side. Theus kicked the extra point to extend the lead to 14-0.

Both defenses would finish out the half with the same bend but don’t break mentality as neither offense could find the end zone. As the teams headed to the locker room the score was Andalusia 14 and Bibb 0.

The Bulldogs received the second half kickoff and slowly began to move down the field. But again the Choctaws defense stiffened and forced a punt. Bibb offense was forced to punt again after two short runs and an intentional grounding penalty was called on 3rd down. This forced the Choctaws to punt the ball back to the Bulldogs. Again the Choctaws defense stiffened and on 4th and 9 Andalusia Theus kicked a 49 yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-0 with 5:14 left in the 3rd quarter.

Bibb offense continued to sputter and was forced into yet another three and out. As the Bulldogs began the drive from their 30 yard line the Choctaws defense seemed to be running on empty and on 2nd down. Omare Lattimer got free and raced 70 yards for another Bulldogs touchdown. Theus extra point made it 24-0 as we headed to the fourth quarter.

Andalusia would add another score with 7:53 to go in the game when Hourel scored on a 4 yard run. Theus extra point was good to make the final score 31-0 in favor of Andalusia.

Cade Brown led the Choctaws on defense with 12 tackles. Jaiqwon Lockett added 5 tackles including a sack. Dillon Williams had 6 tackles and an interception.

Bibb was scheduled to play Wilcox-Central for Homecoming this weekend. However, the Jaguars have forfeited their entire season and there will be no game Friday night. The Homecoming parade is set to begin shortly after 12 on Friday. At 6pm Friday night at the stadium the classes of 1991, 2001, and 2011 will be announced. After this, the Choctaws will have senior night and all senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members will be recognized. The band will then perform for everyone and then the crowning of the 2020 Homecoming Queen will take place. Please come out and show our students who work hard all year long to perform for us on Friday night just how much we appreciate them.

The Choctaws will continue their season on October 2nd as they will travel the short trip up Highway 5 to take on West Blocton in what is known as the Rumble on the River game. This game will also be for second place in the region and a chance to host the first round of the playoffs. Kickoff will be at 7pm with a limited number of tickets available due to Covid-19.
