In an email sent to parents and boosters from band director Matthew Fields:

“Congratulations to our band members on a good performance at the Mid-South Marching Band Festival yesterday. It was a very hot day and they persevered to put on a good show. We have a lot of young members this year and the growth from band camp to now is very evident.”

Scoring at band competitions, for those not in the know, is based on a panel of judges’ ratings. Individual sections and auxilliary get scored, as well as the overall band. With 1 being “excellent” 2 being “good” and 3 being “needs some work” … Saturday’s scores for the Purple Pride Band were as follows:

  • Drum Major – 1
  • Color Guard – 1
  • Dance Line – 1
  • Majorettes – 1
  • Percussion – 1
  • Band (in three areas) – 2, 2, and 1
  • Overall Score – 2

Great job Choctaws! Keep up the good work.
