Chip & Mistie Burkes, owners of The Swamp Whitetails Lodge hosted the Bibb County Chamber of Commerce today at their hunting property in Bibb County, located off of Highway 5 just South of Brent. About 60 local business owners, managers, professionals, and chamber members turned out for the event.

Operations Manager Casey Johnson

Guests listened intently as Chip gave details of the scope of the Whitetails operations. They have two high fenced parcels at this location and a third parcel near Guntersville where they raise stock for the local operation. They do not import deer stock from other states [illegal to cross state lines] but they do import semen and breed trophy stock at the Guntersville ranch and transport adult deer to hunting stock when ready for transplant.

The total operation is spread over 1,500 acres. Last year they hosted about 55 hunts during the season with guests coming from all over the U.S. to enjoy hunting prime large trophy rack bucks. The goal for next season is 60 hunts. Organized hunts are 2-3 day packages. Guests are able to stay in a separate lodge on site and take chef prepared meals during their stay. The accommodations are outstanding and the property is breathtaking. So, if you are planning to hunt next year you will need to book early.

The Swamp Whitetails Lodge is one of those tourism destinations that we all talk about when we discuss economic development opportunities for Bibb County. Chip & Mistie Burkes have set a high benchmark for us to follow. With 2 projects behind them they have shown us that if you build a first class facility in Bibb County it will attract tourism dollars into our economy.
