Bibb Medical Center is moving some dirt. When the earth movers roll inquiring minds want to know what’s up, so here is the good news. Our medical center, independent living, and retirement community is expanding to serve the ever growing needs of Centreville, Brent, and Bibb County. CEO Joseph Marchant says the medical center is in the next phase of a five year plan that will eventually bring a new wellness and community center,  additional retirement and independent living units, and additional walking trails to the complex area. The work that is going on now involves site preparation, ground leveling, and storm water drain installation for a +10 acre site that borders the present hospital complex. There is no firm date for the start of construction but the goal is to complete construction of this phase by the end of 2017.

Marchant explained that the drainage system that lies underground the hospital property will eventually connect to the storm water drainage system that the city has recently worked to replace in the area of Olon Heights and First US Bank. The drain pipes are made of corrugated galvanized metal, were probably installed more than fifty years ago, and are well beyond their life expectancy. These rusted away drains must be replaced before new construction can begin.

The retirement community at Bibb Medical Center is operating at  capacity with 79 occupied independent living units and has a waiting list. The congregate living facility presently has 13 residents and the nursing home, as of today, has one bed available. Bibb Medical Center is one of the largest employers in Bibb County.
